News October / November.

Hello good people of this planet.
My minds fire is totally stoked by this next exhibition.

ITS OUT THERE IN HERE

Grass Hut Gallery presents Its Out There - In Here, an exhibition featuring new paintings and interactive installations by Portland-based artist Mark Warren Jacques.
November 6th -  30th, 2009
Opening reception Friday, November 6th, 6-10pm

For his exhibition Its Out There - In Here, Jacques promises to truly take the viewer Out There with paintings that protrude from the gallery walls and floor, and an interactive installation that includes a "self help painting" and an "In Here zone" where visitors will be invited literally behind the paintings to investigate the artist's inspired affection toward the introspective life, outer-space, inner peace, and wonder.

In addition to installation, a dozen new highly detailed and meticulously rendered paintings in acrylic and ink will fill the gallery space. Imagery includes symbols of nature, the human body, interpretations of vipassana meditation practices, love, and the spiritual universe that connects us all.

Along with the installation and paintings a printed exhibition supplement including "Poem-Titles" and personal interpretations will also be available to further the viewer's understanding of the artist's intention for each work.

Its Out There - In Here will be on view at Grass Hut Gallery, 811 East Burnside, November 6th - 30th  2009. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 12-7 pm and by appointment.

Hello Earth people, my friends,
How about a 1-2-3-4 report.

1.I have a one pager in the current issue of Tokion Magazine. They call me a "deep thinker" which is flattering. & the ever enchanting Chloe Sevigny has the cover-shot. Pick up a copy or peep it online here. Tokion.com

2.Free Life Center hit its fundraising goal on our kickstarter project page and recived sponsorship from The Re-Building Center. Hell yeah. FreeLifeCenter.com

3.The Shooting Gallery of San Francisco will be representing me at Art Basel this year in Miami, Florida. I lived in Florida for a short time when i was young. I used to chase lizards around like crazy.

4.I have a secret show of collabrative flower paintings with Aidan Koch. Ask and i will tell. I'm also working on a split show with Bwana Spoons and David Wien that opens on the 24th of September at Together Gallery in Portland. And a November solo show titled "Its out there, In here" at Grass Hut in Portland. And a group show at White Walls gallery in December.

Staying busy, staying stoked, staying sharp.

Keep Love.

Hello Friends and Family,
Summer is here. Beautiful flowers and exciting projects.
Im super super stoked to announce the launch of Free Life Center. A huge project that Seth Neefus and I have been developing over the past couple of months. It is a culmination of our creative output, our ambitious building dreams, our adventurous spirit, and our belief that through sharing and community we live happier lives.

This project is also really exciting for Seth and I because it is the first time we are asking for funding. Funding opens up a whole new world of possibilities otherwise impossible.

Initially we are focusing on raising funds utilizing kickstarter.com.
Kickstarter is a new "community-funding" platform. Its pretty rad. Take a couple minutes to check it out:

and also here FreeLifeCenter.com

Love always,
MWJ

Sometimes you jump on the board and ride it down the hill, out of control the whole time, loving the wild ride, and you just hang on until the bottom, take a breath and say hell yeah, im still alive, life is amazing.

Another Trip to San Francisco proves itself to be like that.

-
A group exhibition of new works by Mark Warren Jacques, Timothy Karpinski, Nas Chompas, Kyle Lee and Alexandra Steele. Together they intermix themes of nature and industry often representing inspiration from childhood fables and tales. The show is united with an overall idea embodying an earthy spirituality and organic quality. Movement of objects can be seen with certain stillness, which attempts to provoke viewers to slow down, take a breath and witness the world around us.

Hello Everyone.
Its been a busy couple of months. I just returned from an amazing trip to San Francisco. Thank you to all the sunshine and my buddies in S.F., old and new, for such a beautiful journey.

I have been of the opinion for some time now that optimism is an important feeling to keep close and that it opens the doorway to happiness. With the sort of optimism that brings lasting joy i created a new series of paintings that are on display at my first San Francisco solo exhibition titled "The Optimistic Life and Mind"

2009 time to shine.
This Year looks promising.
Please Join me for the opening of my first Portland Solo Gallery show.

"Big Beautiful Color" at Fontanelle Gallery, Portland, Oregon.
-
Fontanelle Gallery presents Big Beautiful Color, an exhibition featuring interactive
installation, painting, and sculpture by Portland artist Mark Warren Jacques.

"Mark Warren Jacques lives within a web of art makers, musicians,
skateboarders, and backyard revolutionaries. This close-knit community
thrives on representing a sort of whimsy that harnesses the energy of
idealism and is rooted in earthy spirituality. Lest you conclude that he lives
in a world of navete, Jacques will surprise you with his gusto to love,
question, and commit himself to the realities of hard work, ambition, and
responsibility to his community.

For his exhibition Big Beautiful Color, Jacques will construct an interactive
large-scale teepee of cast-off slatboard set atop a colorful platform and
against a backdrop of multi-hued streamers. Visitors to the exhibition will be
invited to enter the teepee where atmospheric psych jams, recorded by his
housemate Blake Anthony Ray Miller, will filter from tape deck to a vintage
Alamo amplifier. Within these walls, there is a smooth transition between the
bustle of the downtown streets and a more transcendent space where one can
leave their cares behind and enter a world of inspired meditation."
